take the 9pill /g/, experience peak comf
>>fg-Y33AU133 (OP) /based/ and :redpill:
>>fg-Y33AU133 (OP) tell me more about it
>>fg-Y33AU133 (OP) That's cool that you can `cat /dev/screen | topng > 9pill.png` to take a screenshot. What web browser are you using?
>>fg-Y33AU133 (OP) Thats awesome. Is it running in a vm or actual hardware? I was think of making a werc website running on a plan9 server. Haven't started due to lack of motivation...
>>fg-N5VKCJG2 check underneath your bed >>fg-89KZ0ZY7 its basically the best OS imo, nothing gets close to it. you can check more out on 9front.org (the most maintained fork). you're supposed to have a cluster of machinese working as file servers and cpu servers but you can also install it like a normal OS, and you can share resources easily over the network. its like unix but without 70s cruft, pretty nice. there's a few thinkpads it works on, and rasberry pies are also supported >>fg-LQ8PDACI yea, the screen is just a device, as well as windows. i'm using mothra, js doesn't work but this website thankfully it doesn't use that much js, but images don't work since i think they use javascript for resizing and such, but the captchas work fine. its naisu >>fg-IXLFNMN7 ye its running a vm. it boots on my laptop but the wifi card doesn't quite work yet. you should totally make the website, it'd be nice to see more plan9 servers popping up. you could even try setting up an fchan instance since the go compiler got ported, that'd be pretty sweet
Pro tip: If you run Plan 9/9front in a VM, use drawterm to log into the VM. Drawterm will allow you to use features of your host system like copy/paste and you can access the host filesystem through /mnt/term
>>fg-2M7IAK5R based, thanks. i'll try this
>>fg-Y33AU133 (OP) > /dev/screen | topng Witchcraft
>>fg-JYS87KG4 ye. plan9 has devices for windows and the screen, so you just gotta cat it and use a topng or togif program to encode the data. external drives and such also function by piping commands into a ctl file as well, its berry nice
Useless use of cat though. topng </dev/screen >9pill.png
>>fg-3DWHKMKB Oh no fchan hate my shell redirections.
>>fg-SWVFFO5P inb4 more pipes are greater attack surface
>>fg-3DWHKMKB you mean topng /dev/screen 9pill.png?
>>fg-LQ8PDACI >cat /dev/screen | topng > 9pill.png >catting into a pipe pathetic try this: topng > 9pill.png < /dev/screen
>>fg-OFDQSL1G im i uwnixing coworwy? >w< >o< \>_</ All jokes aside cat is for concatenating files so redirection in this case would make more sense.
>>fg-MALB9DVE all jokes aside, cat is for concatenating files so redirection is more appropriate
>>fg-MALB9DVE brainlet
i tried plan9 on a vm today looks cute, but i have no idea how to use it also why the fuck is ls called lc?
>>fg-JHML37XL as far as i can tell thier the same command lc has an additional flag also read the fucking docs https://plan9.io/magic/man2html/1/ls
Testin'
testing with image
How is 9front better than BSD or GNU/Linux?
>>fg-JHML37XL man lc its a shellscript that pipes ls to mc for multi column output. >no idea how to use it what are you trying to do on it? look at fqa.9front.org . read docs, etc.
>>fg-OD8KZU1R based. >>fg-ULW8CBKV depends on what you are doing. it has a far simpler window system, simpler "coreutils" (ls, cat, grep), everything is a filesystem (including networks), simpler networking with 9p, superior process isolation (namespaces), etc. read the docs, its pretty interesting
>>fg-Y33AU133 (OP) die off pedophile
>>fg-ULW8CBKV they aren't comparable Plan9 is a evolution of Research Unix at Bell Labs BSD is from Berkeley For most people BSD is better cause it has a modern web browser. But plan9 is more hackable (readable source code, simpler tools). I think another OS that is similar to plan9 is gnu hurd
>>fg-SCNB69CN >gnu hurd is similar to plan9 how. genuinely interested, hurd just seems like another "free" unix
>>fg-N3BMA9XE >9front.org's favicon is the globohomo flag >code of conduct is the DS9 rules of acquisition I'm a little lost.
>>fg-6HD9GU15 shitposting and overcompensating for having nazi satire on their website. its essentially armor against faggots and repellent against actual nazis.
>>fg-Y33AU133 (OP) Can you host xmpp on it?
>>fg-RQZVJXRT no. you could probably port prosody since its written in lua though, there's a port of lua to plan9 on sourcehut/shithub.us i think
>>fg-GJ3WY0W3 Linux also has namespaces. How do they compare?
>>fg-OFDQSL1G I will use cat /dev/screen | topng | cat > 9pill.png and there is nothing you can do about that.
cat /dev/screen | topng | cat > 9pill.png
