Who is there left to follow? What happened to the federation? When will they arrive? Where did all the activity go? Why did you reject this instance? How can we announce our existence?

>Who is there left to follow? Let's see, I still have a list of instances lying among my old projects......Almost everyone is dead. Of the FChannel instances, only usagi.reisen remains. Kyogi is still technically up, but redirects here now. Of the feditext insteads, AwooBBS is still alive, and usagi also hosts one. A few of the old domains still exist, but they no longer have FChan. >What happened to the federation? I suppose people simply lost interest over time, including the devs. Translating imageboard software to ActivityPub is not a trivial task. Making an imageboard itself is fairly easy, but making it compatible with other fediverse servers was going to be a real challenge. >When will they arrive? They already did and have already left. >Where did all the activity go? Other sites, probably. >Why did you reject this instance? Lost interested in the project as well. When I was developing the client, the server was still in somewhat active development and the community somewhat alive. But even then, people didn't seem much interested in having a client-only software. Not that I blame them, of course, because my client had a terrible lack of important functionalities to make it seriously usable as a client instead of some sort of archive viewer. For example, to get new posts, you'd need to download every outbox of every instance you are subscribed to, which would take a long time because the client did it in a single thread and FChan didn't have support for requesting only the posts in a certain time frame, so the client would download the entire outbox every time. Lack of support for the client from the server was also a problem for me, but I don't blame the server devs because it's not like someone had tried developing a client before me. The feditext dev, at least as far as I remember, implement most, if not all, my requests for compatibility. The fetching of new posts is the only glaring issue I can remember off the top of my head, the rest of the interface was very good, if I can say so myself. You could create posts and threads, and did not need javascript to see the links to replies. >How can we announce our existence? Is there still development on the server? If not, I don't see why anyone would be interested in an effectively dead project. Speaking of archive, I probably have all past threads from all instances archived. Maybe not every single one literally, since I left before everything collapsed, but should be a substantial amount.

Nice to see you again, FBI-sama. >Is there still development on the server? There was, but not currently. https://github.com/KushBlazingJudah/fedichan I forked it, cleaned it up a bit, added a couple new features and redid authentication. I got too busy to work on it, and will be for quite some time yet before I can even consider picking it up again, so I said fuck it and released it in hopes someone would find use in it from now until the next time I find the time and strength to work on it. If you want to see the (un)finished product, see https://dev.usagi.reisen. I'd like to see a revival but things aren't looking very good and haven't for a while. And of course the last thing I want is for a sudden influx of people which could destroy what little remains between Usagi's admin and me because of the moderation burden that ultimately lies upon what I presume to be just us two. Regardless, I still lurk in hopes something will happen, and things pick up a little. One day...
