Have you guys heard about the Steam Deck? It looks like it could blow the switch out of the water. >Arch-based >KDE Plasma I'm not going to get one but damn, I'm excited about what this means for the future of Proton. I hope it isn't dead on arrival. I ESPECIALLY hope anticheat, while dogshit, gets native support so us loonix users can play some good games again. https://www.steamdeck.com/en/
>>fg-CUSQPIBZ (OP) thats a sega game gear we had in the 90s, nothing new. idk what you are talking about arch based or kde-plasma or anti cheats but you will need a lot of AA batteries though. and it was DOA because Nintendo is the handheld king. so no i dont think the game gear will beat the Nintendo Switch that would be ridiculous.
>>fg-CUSQPIBZ (OP) Does native linux gaming still a thing? Most games on steam work with proton nowadays. There are little to no reason for the game dev to port their games to linux if it already work with proton. If any, this handheld is probably just become a milestone to make native linux gaming obsolete.
>>fg-YYM4AJ14 there ARE a lot of native linux games, even if proton becomes better I don't mind. As long as more games, especially anti cheat requiring ones, become usable with Proton I'd be content
this looks like it has insane pptential and it could have very positive impact on Linux gaming and overall Linux ecosystem but that is just how things look like right now we will see how it goes when people actually get their hands on it hopefully Valve does not fuck this up
>>fg-YEUOK8XI yeah, I'm really hoping it isn't just dead on release
>>fg-0EUL9FV7 hint - its going to be dead on release. this is just a valve proof of concept to make it seem like they are making stuff. people will realize they rather game on the desktop than handheld.
>>fg-7L418TVS maybe, but the switch got popular and its a piece of shit other than the fact it has le Nintendo redditor games
>>fg-RSAWMFVI → anti cheat is fucking awful but some genuinely good games have it >Insurgency is one i can think of off the top of my head
>>fg-7WD8W87N nigga nintendo requires devs to port their shit to their platform. being linux based makes this irrelevant for steamdeck, especially with proton. valve doesn't have the same barrier to entry that the switch had, but it does have the obstacle that "its just another switch"
>>fb-C9PVETMI → >platform problems the fact that every pc game that runs with proton will run on the steamdeck nullifies this. the steamdeck will a quadrillion more games than nintendo has and will already work with steam accounts, so people that have steam will have no problem buying this. remember that most nintendo redditors also probably have a pc and a steam account.
>>fg-UBWQBT1M ok now i HAVE to get it
>>fg-UBWQBT1M as long as they keep the resolution, this would be holy based. imagine carrying God's third temple around.
